“Purim Patterns: Persia, Prophecy, and the Times We’re Living In”

One of the things that I want our church to stand for is authenticity.  Not conspiracy.  Not emotionalism.  Not entertainment.  But genuine and authentic, undiluted biblical truth.

And because of that, we shouldn’t be a church that shies away from biblical prophecy. The Bible has a lot to say about the nations, about Israel, and about the times leading up to the return of Messiah.

If you’ve turned on the TV or the internet since Purim, you know that there is trouble bubbling in the Middle East. Now in one sense, that’s not exactly news. There has been conflict in that region for thousands of years.

But several key things make this particular moment one worth paying attention to.

Purim and the Pattern of Amalek

So we just came out of Purim.  Right?  Where an evil leader was planning to take out the entire Jewish people, but in a sudden turn of events, this evil leader was taken out by the very method in which he aimed to kill the Jewish people, and the Jewish people were saved.

Sound familiar?  Did we just see a minor fulfillment of Purim?  Possibly. Several things to take note of.  Let’s take a look at the pattern.

Feb 28, 2026 - It was Purim weekend.  When in churches and synagogues all over the world, we were reading the passages that command us to remember Amalek. Shabbat Zachor, the Sabbath of remembrance.  Reading:

17 “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt, 18 how he met you on the way and attacked your rear ranks, all the stragglers at your rear, when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore it shall be, when the Lord your God has given you rest from your enemies all around, in the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget. Deuteronomy 25:17-19

Let’s take a moment to do just that. Israel had just come out of Egypt. They were tired. Vulnerable. And Amalek attacked the weak.

But God intervened.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, [f]The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; 16 for he said, “Because [g]the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”  Exodus 17

This was not just a single battle. This was a spiritual pattern that would repeat throughout history.

Saul’s Failure

Fast forward to King Saul.  He was commanded to utterly destroy the Amalekites.  Every last one of them. Women, children, Livestock.  No compromise. No plunder.  No survivors.

2 Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and attack[a] Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ” 1 Samuel 15

But Saul feared the people more than God.  And he spared King Agag, and he did plunder them. This was disobedience before God.

9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them.  1 Samuel 15

So the Prophet Samuel had to finish the job himself.  But somewhere in those moments, the Amalekite line survived.  Agag procreated.

33 But Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal. 1 Samuel 15

Enter Haman

Fast forward to the story of Esther.  The villain in this story is Haman, a direct descendent of Agag.  And thus the Purim story begins.  Haman is determined to annihilate the Jewish people.  And where does this take place?  Persia, which is today modern day Iran.

After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him. Esther 3:1

Haman plots the annihilation of the Jewish people. But the tables turn. The gallows he built for Mordecai become the instrument of his own death. Purim is the celebration of that reversal.

Now Look at What Just Happened

So we find ourselves in the midst of the scriptures when the story unfolds again.  The country of Iran, formerly known as Persia, is ran by an evil regime by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who publicly and proudly called for death to American and death to the Jews. And at least at surface level, seemed to be preparing to kill us by military force (nukes and bombs.) He was even a funder and supporter of the horrendous attacks on Israel by Hamas on Oct 7th, responsible for deaths of thousands of Israeli men, women and children, but also thousands of his own Iranian people. But in a bit of a sudden turn of events, he was killed at the hand of those he wanted to kill by the very method he wanted to kill us. Coincidence much?  I don’t think so.  Because when you start lining up the pieces, it becomes difficult to ignore.

Look at the Parallels

So not only are the characters similar….. evil Iranian Persian leader trying to kill Jews (Haman/ Ayatollah)……  decree issued by a King/Leader (Ahasuerus / Trump)….and the reversal put into motion by a Benjamite Jew (Esther / Netanyahu?), but the land is the same… (Persia/Iran)… timing is the same….(Purim)… equitable reversal for the one calling for death for the Jews…(gallows/bombs)…. And the Supreme Leader being wiped out while we are reading the scripture that says do not forget to blot out the remembrance of Amalek….. What are the odds?

This is an ancient pattern.

The other scriptures that were appointed to read on Feb 28th?  1 Samuel 15… all those scriptures above….  All the around the world, the remnant is whispering….

Now go and attack[a] Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have….

As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women

that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget

The timing is irrefutable.  These scriptures appointed to be read at this time from long ago.  The judgement while the scriptures are read…..  This must be the hand of God.

And if that wasn’t enough….

Even the Heavens Speak

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;  Genesis 1:14

And during this Purim season there was also a blood moon. Now I’m not saying every eclipse is a prophecy.  But the Bible does say the heavens can serve as signs that something significant is happening in God’s timeline.

So What Does This Mean?

So now what?  We have seen quite possibly a minor fulfillment of Purim.  What’s next?  What does this mean in the grand scheme of things?

Let me be clear.  All of this in Melissa’s opinion.. this is not a ‘thus saith the Lord’ moment.  Test everything I say according to the word of the Lord.

Is the end?  Not quite yet.  Is this Gog/Magog (Ezekiel 38)?  I don’t think so.  In 38:11 it says the people of Israel are dwelling peacefully, securely and without walls. So that is a knockout clause on that one.

Is this Psalm 83?  I don’t think so either. At least not yet.  But the stage is certainly being prepared.  Persia (Iran) is certainly one of Israel’s biggest enemies.  We see middle eastern alliances growing. There is an increased and ever-growing global focus on Israel.  And a rapid escalation of middle east wars. So, the trajectory is certainly coming inline.

Here is another interesting scripture to note:

Jeremiah and Elam

Judgment on Elam – Jeremiah 49

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:
‘Behold, I will break the [a]bow of Elam,The foremost of their might.36 Against Elam I will bring the four windsFrom the four quarters of heaven,And scatter them toward all those winds; There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemiesAnd before those who seek their life.I will bring disaster upon them,My fierce anger,’ says the Lord;‘And I will send the sword after themUntil I have consumed them.38 I will set My throne in Elam,And will destroy from there the king and the princes,’ says the Lord.
39 ‘But it shall come to pass in the latter days:I will bring back the captives of Elam,’ says the Lord.”

Where was Elam?  Southwestern Iran.  So curious to note here that the Lord will break the bow of Elam. The bow represented military strength, or a dismantling of Elam’s military power. ✔️ He will destroy kings and officials.  ✔️  The people are scattered……  Some think this could have been the 1979 Iranian revolution, but maybe this will be it?  Or possibly both could be fulfillments. But in the latter days, the Lord certainly will restore their fortunes and bring redemption for the Persian people.

Note this article was published two days before the war began.

This is begging to fit the pattern of scripture.  1.  Military power broken. ✔️  2.  Leadership removed.  ✔️ 3.  People scattered. ❓ A lot did flee this regime.  4.  Spiritual awakening / restoration.  ❓

The part that I’m still considering is where He says, “Set my throne in Elam.”  Does this simply mean removing the people who “think” they’re in control and do it in a way so that they “know” the Lord is God?  Does it mean the gospel spreading there?  Judeo Christian prominence?

But let’s look at just one more thing…..If you were to look at an ancient map of Elam.  It’s obviously not all of Iran.  It’s a very specific area centered around the city of Susa. Today that area is Khuzestan, along the Persian Gulf.  This is exactly where the Bushehr Nuclear Plant is located.  So the dots are certainly connecting.

And back to the restoration… not only did Daniel, Esther and many notable biblical characters have influence in this area, but the Elamite were present in Acts 2.  The Persian people were among the very first to hear the message of Yeshua right after the resurrection and witness the Holy Spirit being poured out.

So where are?

Again, Melissa’s opinion to recap… Persia shows up in pivotal biblical moments.  Cyrus the Great (Persian) releases the Jews from Babylonian captivity to return to build the temple. The story of Esther. Acts 2. So they show up at Restoration.  Preservation.  And Launching the Gospel to the world. So no wonder they’re an end times player. But I keep going back to Israel is not living peacefully.. so the end isn’t yet.

But let’s zoom out and look at more puzzle pieces…

·       Iran (Persia) at war with Israel

·       Israel as a global focus

·       Multiple middle eastern wars

·       Red Heifers (ashes) and preparation for the 3rd temple

·       Preisthood and all the instruments ready

·       Abraham Accords & Board of Peace (which rules over the UN)

None of these prove the end is tomorrow. But they do tell us something important. The puzzle pieces are now coming together in a way that makes the prophetic scriptures seem more real and recent than ever before.    The stage is being set.

A Better Question Than “When?”

Instead of asking “When will it happen?” Maybe the better question is:

Are we ready if it does?

Because Jesus told us clearly:

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars… these are the beginning of birth pains.”

Birth pains mean something is coming.  And when the contractions start, the wise prepare.  Don’t panic.  Don’t fall into conspiracy. But don’t ignore the signs either.

Watch.  Pray. Stay faithful.

And make sure your house is in order. Because the King is coming. 👑
