The Second Coming, Resurrection, and Rapture – A Torah-Rooted Perspective

This teaching explores the Second Coming of Messiah Yeshua, the Resurrection of the righteous, and the Rapture from a clear, compelling, and Torah-aligned perspective. We will dismantle common misconceptions—such as a secret rapture or multiple returns of Messiah—and show why these events must occur after the Great Tribulation, in one unified, visible moment.

1. Torah Foundation for a Unified Return

God operates in patterns. The Torah teaches us through shadows and types—what was shall be again (Ecclesiastes 1:9). The Exodus, the giving of the Torah, and the gathering of Israel are prophetic patterns for Messiah’s return.• Exodus Pattern: One deliverer, one visible redemption, one assembly gathered (Ex. 12-14)• Feast Days as Prophetic Calendar: Yeshua fulfilled Spring Feasts (Passover, Firstfruits) at His first coming. The Fall Feasts (Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles) point to His return—public and glorious, not secret.

He sets the precedence for protection and separation for His people, but not removal. (Noah's family was protected in the ark, Moses was placed in an ark. then in the wilderness, the Hebrew boys went in the fire, Daniel went in the lions den)

John 17: 15 I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

Revelation 2:10 Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will experience affliction for ten days. Be faithful to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.

2. Why the Second Coming is After the Tribulation

Yeshua clearly taught that His return and the gathering of the elect happens “after the tribulation.”• Matthew 24:29-31 – “Immediately after the tribulation… they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds… and He will gather His elect.”  See also Mark 13:24-25• 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 – The Day of the Lord (return of Messiah) will not come until the “man of sin” (antichrist) is revealed.• Revelation 20:4-6 – The resurrection of the righteous happens after the tribulation and beast system are judged.

3. Why It Is Not a Secret Event

Nowhere in Scripture is the resurrection or rapture described as secret. It is noisy, global, and unmistakable:• 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 – “The Lord shall descend with a shout, the voice of an archangel, and the trumpet of God.”• Matthew 24:27 – “As lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”• Revelation 1:7 – “Every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him.”

4. Why It Is One Unified Event, Not Two

There is no Scripture that says Messiah comes halfway, then comes again again. The “two comings” idea contradicts the prophetic order and feast cycle.• Hebrews 9:28 – “Christ was offered once… He will appear a second time.” No mention of a third.• John 6:39-40, 44, 54 – Repeatedly says Yeshua will “raise them up at the last day,” not seven years before.• Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) – Represents the resurrection and kingship; only one trumpet call for gathering (1 Cor. 15:52).

5. The Resurrection and Rapture in Light of Torah

The concept of resurrection is not new—it’s deeply rooted in the Tanakh.• Daniel 12:1-2 – “At that time… many who sleep in the dust shall awake.” This happens during “a time of great distress.”• Isaiah 26:19 – “Your dead shall live; together with my dead body they shall arise.”• Ezekiel 37 – Valley of Dry Bones: national resurrection and regathering of Israel, post-tribulation.Rapture is simply the catching away of the resurrected righteous—not an escape from trouble, but a reception of the returning King (1 Thess. 4:17, John 14:3).

6. One Return, One Kingdom, One Law, One Gathering

Scripture consistently shows one grand event:• Zechariah 14:4 – His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives.• Matthew 25:31-46 – The nations are judged when He returns in glory.• Revelation 11:15 – “The kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdom of our Lord…”Messiah returns to reign, resurrect, gather, judge, and dwell with His people—all at once.

7. The Harvest at the End of Age

 Proverbs 2:21 "For the upright will inhabit the land, and those of integrity will remain in it; 22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous ripped out of it."

Proverbs 10:30 The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not remain on the earth.

Psalm 52 4 You love any words that destroy, you treacherous tongue! 5 This is why God will bring you down forever. He will take you, ripping you out of your tent;

he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah 6 The righteous will see and fear, and they will derisively say about that hero,, 7 “Here is the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, taking refuge in his destructive behavior.” 8 But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God; I trust in God’s faithful love forever and ever.

 Malachi 4:1-3. Here we see the righteous rise at the second coming. 4 “For look, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and everyone who commits wickedness will become stubble. The coming day will consume them,” says the Lord of Armies, “not leaving them root or branches. 2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and playfully jump like calves from the stall. 3 You will trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the Lord of Armies.

               Supports the wheat & the tares parable in Matthew 13:24-30 as well as the harvest in Rev 14:14-20.

               36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. 40 Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom all who cause sin. and those guilty of lawlessness. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Let anyone who has ears listen.

 

8. Those Who Endure Until the End

The endurance called for above in Revelation 14 is mentioned in Matt 24: 12-13

Matthew 24:12–13 Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Mark 13:13 1You will be hated by everyone because of my name, but the one who endures to the end will be saved.

9.  As in the days of Noah…. Who was swept away?

Matthew 24:37-41 37 As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 38 For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark. 39 They didn’t know until the flood came and swept them all away. This is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding grain with a hand mill; one will be taken and one left.

Luke 17:26-30 34 I tell you, on that night two will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.” 37 “Where, Lord?” they asked him. He said to them, “Where the corpse is, there also the vultures will be gathered.”

10.  The Last Day

We aren’t resurrected until the last day.. John 6:39 This is the will of him who sent me: that I should lose none of those he has given me but should raise them up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father: that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him will have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day. 54 The one who eats my flesh and drinks my bloodr has eternal life, and I will raises him up on the last day,

John 11:24 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

1 Corinthians 15:51 Listen, I am telling you a mystery: We will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.

Revelation 2:26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works to the end: I will give him authority over the nations—

Summary

There is one visible, world-shaking return of Yeshua—after the tribulation. At that time, the dead in Messiah will rise, the living righteous will be gathered, and the nations will see the King in glory. This aligns with the patterns of Torah, the feasts of YHVH, and the words of both the prophets and apostles.Let us be like the wise virgins, prepared with oil, watching for the day—not for escape, but for the arrival of our Bridegroom King.

For the first 1,800+ years of Christian history, the universal belief was:

• One visible return of Jesus

• Resurrection of the righteous at the end of the age

• A period of great tribulation before His return

• Judgment and Kingdom establishment follow

📖 Early Church Writers (2nd–4th centuries):

• Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, and others taught that believers would face the Antichrist, suffer persecution, and be delivered at Messiah’s return, not before.

• They held what’s now called a post-tribulation view.

“But he [the Antichrist] shall venture to do unlawful deeds on the earth against us, the Christians, who, having learned the truth, and holding fast to it, are ready to die for the name of Jesus.”— Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho (c. AD 155)

📍 2. The Rise of Pre-Tribulation Rapture Theory (1830s)

🚨 John Nelson Darby (1800–1882)

• Irish-Anglican preacher and founder of the Plymouth Brethren movement

• Around 1830, Darby developed the idea of a pre-tribulation rapture — a secret coming of Christ to remove believers before the Great Tribulation

• He popularized the idea that Christ would return in two phases:

  1. Secret rapture (before tribulation)

  2. Second Coming (after tribulation)

This split return had no historical precedent and was seen as innovative (or even controversial) by many.

📚 3. Spread through the Scofield Reference Bible (1909)

• Cyrus Scofield, a student of Darby’s theology, included the pre-trib rapture teaching in the notes of his Scofield Reference Bible

• This Bible became wildly popular in American evangelical circles and shaped generations of pastors and churches

• Its notes gave the impression that the rapture teaching was directly in the text, despite it being a doctrinal commentary

🎥 4. 20th Century Popularization

• The 1970s book The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey brought rapture teaching into pop culture

• The 1990s-2000s Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins turned the idea into movies and novels, deeply embedding it into American evangelical imagination

🕎 5. Messianic and Torah-Rooted View

• Jewish eschatology and Torah-based understanding do not support a two-phase return

• Instead, the return of Messiah is tied to:

  • The Day of the Lord

  • The Resurrection (Daniel 12, Isaiah 26)

  • The Gathering of scattered Israel (Second Exodus themes)

  • Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets) as the singular sounding of the shofar to gather the righteous

In this view, the resurrection and rapture (being “caught up”) happen at one climactic, visible, and glorious return.
